Here are some of PlasmaPen™’s frequently asked questions from clients interested in treatment.
HOW CAN I TIGHTEN LOOSE SKIN ON MY FACE?
- Soft-surgery contracts, tightens, and resurfaces loose tissue
- Controlled trauma eliminates most superficial wrinkles
- The process strengthens, plumps, inflates and lifts the skin’s structure
- It prevents and slows down many of the negative effects of ageing
The best way to tighten loose skin on the face is with a PlasmaPen™ soft-surgery treatment. This procedure immediately contracts, tightens and resurfaces the loose epidermal tissue on the face by delivering controlled trauma to the skin using a gaseous arc of ionized plasma gas, all created and delivered with precision by the PlasmaPen™ device. The plasma energy transfers rapidly to the skin’s outer (epidermal) layer and, simultaneously, it heats and disrupts the deeper dermal structure via thermal conduction.
This creates a dual zone of micro-trauma consisting of superficial micro-damage to the epidermis and inner thermal modification within the dermis (especially to the fibroblasts which is why it is often referred to as PlasmaPen™ fibroblasting). This delivers immediate lift and tightening of loose skin on the face, significantly combats photo-ageing and eliminates most superficial wrinkles (rhytids).
The fibroblasting process then stimulates extensive dermal remodelling over the next 3 months which includes new collagen synthesis, the production of elastin and increased cross-linking between the collagen and elastin. Collectively, this all helps strengthen, plump, inflate and lift the skin’s structure. It also encourages the binding of hyaluronic acid with water to also help fill, inflate and plump wrinkles in the treatment area. The dermis becomes stronger and more flexible and this all underpins the partial-to-complete elimination of medium-depth wrinkles alongside a marked improvement and softening of deep wrinkles.
PlasmaPen™ also helps activate and release important proteins in the dermis which regulate cell maturation and encourages extensive tissue regeneration and repair. All these positive changes underpin future tissue stability and actually help prevent and slow down many of the negative effects of ageing which directly contribute towards loose skin like the loss of collagen and elasticity.
WHAT IS THE BEST TREATMENT FOR CROW'S FEET WRINKLES?
PlasmaPen™ has an unrivalled level of precision and success in treating and preventing crow’s feet wrinkles and offers short downtimes and optimal results. PlasmaPen™ soft-surgery sublimation immediately contracts, tightens and resurfaces the epidermal tissue around the crow’s feet wrinkles by delivering controlled, precision trauma to the skin using a gaseous arc of ionized plasma gas – all created by the PlasmaPen™ device.
This helps deliver immediate lift and skin tightening, significantly combats photo-ageing and eliminates most if not all of the superficial wrinkles (rhytids). Since it also heats and disrupts the deeper dermal structure via thermal conduction (thus creating a dual-zone of micro-trauma comprising of superficial micro-damage to the epidermis and inner thermal modification within the dermis) it stimulates extensive dermal remodelling over the next 3 months which includes new collagen synthesis, the production of elastin and increased cross-linking between the collagen and elastin.
This process strengthens, plumps, inflates and lifts the skin’s structure. It also encourages the binding of hyaluronic acid with water which fills, inflates and plumps crow’s feet wrinkles. The dermis becomes stronger and more flexible and this all underpins the partial-to-complete elimination of medium-depth wrinkles and delivers a marked improvement and softening of deep wrinkles in the area. This is a very important outcome with crow’s feet, since they are often deeper looking and more prominent than other wrinkles, because the skin is very thin and less oily in that area.
PlasmaPen™ also helps activate and release important proteins in the dermis that regulate cell maturation and encourage extensive tissue regeneration and repair. All these positive changes underpin future tissue stability and actually help to prevent and slow down many of the negative ageing effects which contribute towards crow’s feet, which include the loss of collagen and elasticity we experience as we grow older.
WHAT CAN I DO TO LOOK YOUNGER WITHOUT SURGERY?
To look younger without surgery, you need to look after your skin. Follow these steps for healthier-looking skin:
- Avoid sun damage as this speeds up ageing
- Get a good night’s sleep – sleep deprivation is bad for your skin
- Avoid stress wherever possible
- Avoid excessive air pollution, smoking and alcohol
- Ensure you have a good diet – bad nutrition will show in your skin
- A good skincare regime each day is important
Although not always easy to avoid, the above are the main extrinsic factors behind skin ageing. There are intrinsic factors too which include the natural ageing process and our genetic disposition.
All of these effects can be combated not just with a better lifestyle and skin care programme but with next-generation treatments like PlasmaPen™ that are able to repair and rollback many of the negative signs of ageing and even prevent (or at least slow down) many of the future negative effects we are likely to experience – especially the premature degeneration of dermal elastic tissue (elastotic change).
PlasmaPen™ is able to lift, tighten, regenerate and repair practically any area of the skin and it spectacularly improves and brightens skin tone, laxity and texture and dramatically reduces and plumps out lines and wrinkles.
PlasmaPen™ fibroblasting and soft surgery sublimation is able to address damaged or unhealthy skin, treat an extensive range of skin conditions and deliver a brighter, more contoured and youthful appearance with virtually immediate and incredibly long-lasting results – all without the need for fillers, suturing, scalpels, injectable anaesthetics or costly and invasive surgery.
WHICH NON SURGICAL FACE LIFT IS THE BEST?
Soft-surgery is arguably the most effective and least invasive face-lift option:
- Versatile, comprehensive, and high impact
- Skin tightening, skin lifting, and rejuvenation
- Safe, cost-effective with minimal downtime
Compared to a full surgical facelift the non-invasive PlasmaPen™ soft-surgery is arguably the most versatile, comprehensive, and high-impact alternative available. Non-surgical facelifts with PlasmaPen™ deliver a wide range of clinical outcomes and do so in tandem including skin tightening, skin lifting, rejuvenation, revitalization, regeneration, and smoothing. PlasmaPen™ is a very safe, quick, and cost-effective treatment with minimal downtimes, little or no pain or discomfort and it delivers very long-lasting and natural-looking results.
HOW CAN I TIGHTEN MY JAWLINE NATURALLY?
- Soft-surgery significantly shrinks and tightens saggingskin
- Proven, natural-looking results for jaw augmentation
- Dermal filler injections directly into the jawline for a natural look
- A melting agent applied to the neck and chin helps dimiish fats
One of the best and most proven ways of non-surgically tightening and augmenting a jawline is with a PlasmaPen™ soft-surgery procedure that significantly shrinks and tightens drooping and saggy skin and pulls the skin directly into the jawline, neck and ear so to provide more definition and to smooth the contours of the mandible. The application of neurotoxins to the masseter muscles, the injection of dermal fillers directly to the jawline, the use of surgical threads, radiofrequency and a melting agent known as Kybella (deoxycholic acid) that is applied to neck and chin fat are also very popular options.
WHAT IS THE BEST NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT FOR WRINKLES?
PlasmaPen™ soft surgery is widely regarded as one of the very best non-surgical treatments for wrinkles. Using a gaseous arc of ionized plasma gas that is created by the PlasmaPen™ device, the plasma energy transfers rapidly to the skin’s outer (epidermal) layer to heat and disrupt the deeper dermal structure via thermal conduction. This creates a dual-zone of micro-trauma consisting of superficial micro-damage to the epidermis and inner thermal modification within the dermis (especially to the fibroblasts which is why it is often referred to as PlasmaPen™ fibroblasting).
There is a wide range of medi-aesthetic treatments and cosmeceutical solutions available for the softening, reduction, and/or elimination of wrinkles. Some of the state-of-the-art, nonsurgical treatments for wrinkles from PlasmaPen™ include:
- Laser treatment
- RF (Radio-frequency) skin tightening
Fibroblasting helps deliver immediate lift and tightening of loose skin, significantly combats photo-aging, and eliminates most superficial wrinkles (rhytids). It then stimulates extensive dermal remodeling over the next 3 months which includes new collagen synthesis, the production of elastin, and increased cross-linking between collagen and elastin. Collectively, this helps strengthen, plump, inflate and lift the skin’s structure above to reduce, soften and even entirely eliminate wrinkles. It also encourages the binding of hyaluronic acid with water to help fill, inflate, and plump wrinkles in the treatment area. The dermis becomes stronger and more flexible and this all underpins the partial-to-complete elimination of medium-depth wrinkles alongside a marked improvement and softening of deep wrinkles.
PlasmaPen™ also helps activate and release important proteins in the dermis which regulate cell maturation and encourage extensive tissue regeneration and repair. All these positive changes underpin future tissue stability and help prevent and slow down many of the negative effects of aging that actually cause wrinkles in the first place.
HOW MUCH IS A PLASMAPEN™ TREATMENT?
PlasmaPen™ is really not an expensive treatment given the amazing results our technicians will deliver for you. On average, most new single PlasmaPen™ treatments are priced by our Elite Technicians at around £500 per area per treatment and this would be for areas like the upper or lower eyelids (non-surgical blepharoplasty – the equivalent price for an invasive cosmetic surgery procedure of that nature which will likely give the exact same results is £3,000 to £6,000 so price is relative). More complex and more time-consuming procedures, such as a full face-lift, a neck or a forehead lift, breast lift, or a jawline augmentation will likely be priced significantly higher as there is a great deal more time and work required. Equally, an Oral Commissures treatment, for example, may be priced much lower. Most technicians will offer discounts for booking extra treatments, receiving multiple procedures spread over a course of treatment or also having work on a smaller area alongside your main treatment. See here for a list of the type of treatments our technicians deliver each and every day.
PlasmaPen™ is a highly sought-after, in-demand and en-vogue treatment and it is not over-commercialised. Consider the many expensive and invasive alternatives out there like cosmetic surgery, think about the short term results but long term expense of some treatments like fillers and botox and think about other services and solutions which are often grossly inferior to ours or at least incomparable. Price integrity among our technicians is important because they all make a considerable financial and time investment in delivering you this incredible treatment – not just in terms of the equipment and training they invest in but in the insurance and all the pre and post treatment product they use on you, as well as in their overhead costs of just delivering treatment to you in a safe, hygienic, insured and professional way. The results possible with PlasmaPen™ are stunning and our technicians make enormous efforts to deliver you highly detailed consultations, the best aftercare, the most professional follow-up and well-devised and well-executed treatment plans that deliver you the results you are looking for and expect.
It’s not something where you should be looking to ‘cut corners’ or ‘buy cheap’. Our technicians have the worlds best plasma device. They have the best training and support. They offer the best solution that savvy clients like you want. It’s an old adage but if you buy cheap you will buy twice. Please don’t compromise on quality by buying a cheap treatment with a cheap plastic device or an unknown plastic device because you have too much to lose if it all goes wrong, if you suffer micropigmentation, scarring, or any other negative consequence.
Ask yourself this – if you needed a tooth extracting would you pay your dentist a fair price to do it safely, perfectly and in a fully insured and painless way or would you instead choose to go to a backstreet provider using a pair of pliers?
CAN PLASMAPEN™ TREAT ALL SKIN TYPES?
No – not with full PlasmaPen™ treatment anyway (for rejuvenation only skin treatment – where the skin is not fully broken and the fibroblasts are not targeted – we can actually treat any skin type).
For full PlasmaPen™ treatment, we only treat skin types 1 to 3 on the Fitzpatrick scale. Your technician will be able to determine precisely what skin type you are and will likely use one of our professional Skin Type Sensors. Treating anyone with darker skin than this with full treatment is putting clients at risk of pigmentation. The reason for this is that people with darker skins have melanocytes capable of making large amounts of melanin. When black skin is injured, for example, the melanocytes will usually either hyperpigment or hypopigment. Dark skinned people have a greater risk of forming keloid and hypertrophic scars too.
As will be discussed in your consultation, certain skin types heal at different rates. For example, oily-skinned clients may take longer to heal. Our technicians give a great deal of consideration to clients who are contraindicated and/or who may have sensitivities. This will be discussed with you prior to any treatment and you should be completely honest and transparent in your responses.
Clients with compromised immune systems may also take longer to heal and may not always achieve the results they expect due to their lymphatic system not working properly. Without a fully functioning lymphatic system, the cells responsible for the 4 phases of our procedures healing process (coagulation, inflammation, cell regeneration and tissue maturation) cannot always fully do their job properly and the rejuvenation, lifting and tightening of the skin may thus not then give the same level of results that are usually common with our PlasmaPen™ treatment.
If you have any doubts or concerns, please contact us with your questions and we will do our best to give you the information you need.
HOW LONG DOES A PLASMAPEN™ TREATMENT TAKE?
Our treatment is probably the fastest out there thanks to our spectacular plasma delivery, the incredible ergonomic and lightweight design of our PlasmaPen™, the tiniest probes, and the best technician training and support that is available anywhere from any provider.
There are a superfluity of treatments available but, to give you some examples, it should require about 30 to 40 minutes to treat your upper or lower eye areas. Procedures like a full neck treatment or a full forehead lift will be longer and prior to any treatment you will have the area numbed. Depending on the numbing and pre-treatment products used, the length of your pre-treatment consultation, the forms you will need to complete, the individual technician and then the aftercare advice provided to you after your treatment, this will of course extend the overall time you will spend with your technician. Depending on the particular treatment, your objectives and you as an individual, your technician may recommend more than one session.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Often only one but it will depend on your personal expectations, the area being treated, your age, the condition and type of your skin, and many other factors. We implacably believe that you simply will not get better or faster results alongside less downtime and faster recovery than you will enjoy with an official PlasmaPen™ by Louise Walsh International procedure from one of our expert technicians.
Each and every client is different and your treatment plan will always be bespoke. In our experience, some clients may require 2 or more treatments to achieve optimal results, especially for some procedures and skin conditions where the results will be cumulative by design. Many clients are, as we say, absolutely delighted with the results that our technicians and advanced plasma technology are able to deliver after just one treatment.
Remember too that although your treated area may look completely healed from the outside very quickly and that our results are often utterly dramatic from day one; it takes several weeks and sometimes months for the cells living within your epidermal junction to fully do the job that we have told them to do in traumatizing your skin with PlasmaPen™. We advise all our technicians, for most treatments, not to treat anyone for a minimum of 8 weeks after their first treatment because before that point, we are unlikely to be able to see and fully appreciate all the results that the first treatment actually achieved. Often, at that point, they will tell you that you simply don’t need another treatment on that area because you have indeed achieved optimal results/effects!
WHAT WILL MY PLASMAPEN™ PRE-TREATMENT CONSULTATION INVOLVE?
Your technician will complete a detailed consultation with you, sometimes on the day of your treatment and sometimes before depending on your mutual preference and availability. They will complete detailed paperwork with you (such as consent forms) and will take before and after photographs since those are legally required for their insurance.
A typical consultation includes:
- Full details of your skin type and history
- Contraindications and relevant medical history
- Your lifestyle (e.g. are you a smoker, do you use sunbeds, do you use fillers, have you had any recent cosmetic surgery)
- Identifying what your expectations are, whether they are realistic and why you actually want treatment
- Answering any questions you have
- Explaining the treatment, the aftercare regime you will need to follow, the downtime, the likely recovery period, and any other relevant information
- Explaining the number and frequency of treatments you may require, if more than one
- The cost and payment
WHAT AFTERCARE IS INVOLVED?
Aftercare following a PlasmaPen™ treatment is very straightforward and mostly common sense. If you are paying for an incredible treatment like this and investing in your beauty and you then willfully ignore the strict instructions your technician will fully brief you on – perhaps by choosing to go on a sunbed the next day – you will clearly imperil the outcome and may not achieve optimal results.
We train our Technicians in exceptional detail in this area and we keep them fully up to speed on all of the latest best practices. We arm them with all the tools they need to devolve this information to you.
IS PLASMAPEN™ TREATMENT PAINFUL?
We don’t think so and especially not with our #1 device. For many, PlasmaPen™ is virtually a pain-free treatment and is often described as merely tingly. We see many clients fall asleep during their procedure. However, the treatment may be moderately uncomfortable depending on you and where you are being treated. Eyelid procedures (where the skin is at its thinnest) can be more painful for some people but our device, plasma delivery, and super-fine probes allow our technicians to work very quickly and efficiently and this minimizes potential discomfort for you by design.
Your technician will numb the area before treatment and sometimes during too depending on the products they use and the regulations in this area. For treatments on large areas, technicians will typically “numb as they go” so that the numbing effects don’t wear off while they are still working. It’s all relative too – think how painful something like cosmetic surgery can be after a procedure when your anesthetic wears off.
HOW LONG DO PLASMAPEN™ RESULTS LAST?
PlasmaPen™ delivers exceptionally long-lasting results. From all observations, clinical trials, and real-world experience, about three years is normal. Once the skin is tightened then it is actually permanent. However, your skin will still continue to age and this will happen at different rates based on genetics, lifestyle choices, and free radicals so although we suggest treatment results will last for around 3 years, some clients will experience longer-lasting results than others. Remember too that in addition to rejuvenation, we are actually helping repair the scaffolding of the skin with our fibroblasting to mitigate the aging process.
If, for example, we treat your smokers’ lines and you then continue to smoke then results may possibly not be as long-lasting compared to if you had stopped. If we make your eyelid hoods or bags disappear then that is also a permanent effect although, of course, they could potentially grow back in years to come.

I’M ON ANTICOAGULANTS & MY TECHNICIAN SAYS I CAN’T HAVE TREATMENT. WHY?
Anticoagulants are medicines that help prevent blood clots. They’re usually given to people at a high risk of getting clots so as to reduce their chances of developing serious conditions such as strokes and heart attacks. Anticoagulant drugs (Warfarin for example but also Ivaroxaban/Xarelto, Dabigatran/Pradaxa, Apixaban/Eliquis, Edoxaban/Lixiana, and others) are a major contraindication for us and your technician’s insurer and people using them are NOT to be treated with PlasmaPen™ because they thin the blood (or rather they interrupt the process involved in the formation of blood clots so while they’re sometimes called “blood-thinning” medicines, they don’t actually make the blood thinner).
Anyway, the healing of surgical and traumatic wounds – like the micro-traumas we cause with PlasmaPen™ – specifically and intentionally involves the clotting process, inflammation, cell proliferation, and tissue remodeling. Anticoagulants can slow and delay this healing process. Delayed healing of traumatic wounds can cause persistent bleeding, increased wound seepage, and in some cases failed wound closure. Delayed wound healing can also lead to infection among other undesirable things.
The principal drugs which can slow wound healing are cytotoxic antineoplastic and immunosuppressive agents, corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and anticoagulants. If in your consultation these drugs and contraindications come up then you cannot be treated with PlasmaPen™ and this is absolutely for your own benefit.
